Job Description:
The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) Teacher to join our team. The SETSS Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with Individualized Education Programs or Individualized Education Services Program(IEPs/IESP) in both inclusive and self-contained settings. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students with disabilities and ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of students.
Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Monitor and assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals and objectives.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and other required documentation.
Work collaboratively with the school's multidisciplinary team, including counselors, therapists, and administrators, to support student success.
Qualifications:
New York State certification in Special Education/Student with Disabilities or Reading/literacy
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs.
Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
Ability to develop and implement individualized instructional strategies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
Experience with co-teaching models and collaboration in inclusive settings.
Proficiency in using technology to support student learning.
